2023 ABAA CONVENTION Class descriptions

Convention classes are 90min long

There are generally 3 to 5 classes on offer in each time slot. 5 Time slots per day

Amy Victoria

Class 1: It's Amour (Amoré)

Armor is a great way to take your body painting to the next level. In this class we will talk about tools and materials to use and how to measure the body and design for different types of styles, fantasy and historical alike. You will get the chance to make one arm guard.

If you intend to come to this class please bring with you a hot glue gun, and any items that you think will help your design – chains, Velcro, string etc.

 

Class 2: Leather and Lace - corsetry for photoshoots

Want to level up your photo shoots? Boudoir photo shoots are all the rage at the moment especially as a spicy gift for your significant other on Valentine’s day – In this class we will talk and demonstrate about how to paint corsetry and Lingerie for the female form and how to measure different body shapes to give the most flattering design

Class 1: Easter Designs

Get ready for an absolute cuteness overload, with a variety of sweet and adorable Easter designs developed with an assortment of techniques and elements.

 

Class 2: Enchanting Designs

A compilation of sweet, delicate and enchanting designs, created using a variety of techniques and elements. You will be able to use these techniques to mix and restyle into a multitude of looks.

Class 1: Bling it up

Change you designs from ordinary to the extraordinary with custom made bling. A brief introduction to making bling with a focus on design enhancements.

 

Class 2: Fast and furious super heroes

Super hero designs that can be enhanced depending on time. Simple, fast techniques that can be embellished if time permits.

 

Elle Slattery

Class 1: Crown Pleasers; Fairies, Queens and ‘Inbetweens’

Prepare to create your “crowning glory”. From the deep sea to the icy snow, from Winter to all things Spring, get ready to bring new beauty and “oomph” to your fairy crowns (and perhaps a few masks).

Using mainly one stroke and liner brushes, these magical designs are certain to bring a SMILE. So, if WINNERS are GRINNERS and WINNERS wear a CROWN, it only makes sense perfect that you shut your eyes, clap your hands and say loudly, ‘I DO BELIEVE IN FAIRIES’.

 

Class 2: Fat Strokes and Fine Liners

The passionate romance between the One-Stroke and the Liner brush. A chubby colourful character brought to LIFE by a svelte, etherial, demure beauty. When BOLD and VIBRANT meets light, whimsical and care-free, stunning designs and artistic fusion are created.

While often avoided because “I’m too heavy handed”, “my designs won’t stand out” and my favourite, “I’m a perfectionist”, this class will blow those excuses out of the water. Learn not only the fundamentals but also the MANY different ways to enhance a one stroke design. This petite gem makes a ginormous impact.

Once you have command of these brushes then you can lose control in the best way!

Class 1: Welcome to the Jungle

Do you draw a blank when you are asked for a sloth or a chameleon. Let's explore the jungle together and see what we can find.

Class 2: Let's Talk Sport

Jo and her team in Adelaide have many years of experience in large sporting events such as football, cricket, soccer and basketball.  Come along and find out how to keep those long lines moving quickly with fast, high impact sports related designs.  We will also discuss minimal set ups and ending the line successfully and on time.

Class 1: Birthday Balloon Tower

No. 1 Best Seller! Guaranteed WOW factor! Join me to learn how to make this gorgeous balloon tower using round balloons and foil numbers. We’ll work together in groups to build our balloon tower base structure using 11 inch and 5 inch balloons. Then it’s up to you how to style it!! Add a large foil number and choose from smaller foils, twisted flowers, artificial florals, ribbon, simple balloon rainbows or butterflies etc. Once you make one you’ll see how easy it is to adapt to any age, switch up the colours and embellishments to make hundreds of different designs. This class is aimed at getting the biggest impact with little or no balloon twisting experience. Great add-on sales for face painters that don’t want to be a “balloon twister”.

 

Class 2: Elegant Birthday Centrepiece

So many variations! Great alternative to flowers for Mum! Hardly any twisting required for these impressive designs. Keep it simple or get creative and add all the extras! Fantastic smaller arrangements that can sit on the table at a restaurant or party. Perfect for the “hard to buy for” Mum or Grandma with endless options to personalise for the individual. Let’s start with a basic design and then we experiment with different colour combos and embellishments to make hundreds of stunning designs. This class is aimed at getting the biggest impact with little or no balloon twisting experience. Great add-on sales for face painters that don’t want to be a “balloon twister”.

Class 1: On The Job Boy designs

During the class, I'll be teaching my "most popular" on the Job boy designs. I will teach you sponging techniques and application to give a flawless base and finishing with onestroke applications, making the designs fast and extremely effective.

 

Class 2: On The Job Girl Designs

During this class I will teach designs such as butterflies, unicorns, roses and fairies. All designs are fast and effective and what I paint on the job. We will visit sponge applications and how to incorporate and use correctly the use of angle brushes.

Kellie will show you how she creates & manages groups of children, to keep them engaged, along with creating a positive nice atmosphere. Class 1: Introduction to Ninagems

If you've not had the opportunity to watch Nina paint her signature Ninagems, you really don't want to miss this class.  With a paint kit that can practically fit in the palm of her hand she can speed through a line up giving each customer a completely individual work of art suitable for all ages and all genders.  Each Ninagem is different, versatile and is made up on the spot. Using 3 simple rules of thumb and the barest of essentials, you too are welcomed to paint along and implement your very own signature paint strokes and/or painting style.

Ninagems are suitable for every skill level and have been proven to improve with practice and a willingness to embrace imperfections.

 

Class 2: Huge Ninagems

In this class, Nina whips out her #20 round brush from Bunnings and demonstrates how she paints Huge Ninagems for larger body parts without taking any longer to complete then smaller designs.

Ideal for body painting at events of all kinds, from intimate baby showers to large music festivals.

Bring your own big brush and paint along with her and/or sit back, relax and watch to practice later.

She'll also be demonstrating how she implements UV paint in her artwork.

Ninagems are suitable for all skill levels and they will improve with practice and a willingness to embrace imperfections.

Let's have fun with watercolour style. It's great for face, arm & body. On both days I will teach how to load the brush, making the watercolour effect, choosing the colours and tips & tricks. Suitable for intermediate, but beginners are welcome.

 

Class 1: On the job designs for girls

Something pretty like flowers, butterfly, mandala, dream catcher, or animals in kawaii style. Any design requests are welcome.
